Melon Ice Candy Recipe

Safety Reminders:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the ingredients and equipment.
  • Use a clean and sanitized environment to prepare the mixture.
  • Handle the ice mixture and containers carefully to avoid contamination.
  • Freeze the mixture at 0°F (-18°C) or below to ensure proper freezing.
  • Consume the ice candy within a reasonable time frame to prevent spoilage.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 can (14 oz/397g) of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup cubed melon (any type, e.g., cantaloupe, honeydew, or watermelon)
  • Ice cubes
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the water and sweetened condensed milk. Whisk until well combined and smooth.
  2. Add the cubed melon to the mixture and stir until the melon is fully coated.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Pour the chilled mixture into ice cube trays or popsicle molds, filling each cube or mold to the top.
  5. Add an ice cube to each cube or mold, making sure it's fully submerged in the mixture.
  6. Freeze the mixture at 0°F (-18°C) or below for at least 4 hours or until the desired consistency is reached.
  7. If desired, sprinkle a pinch of granulated sugar on top of the frozen mixture before serving.
  8. To serve, simply pop out the ice candy from the molds or cube trays, and enjoy!

Yield: Approximately 12-15 ice candies, depending on the size of the ice cube trays or popsicle molds.

Tips:

  • For a stronger melon flavor, use a higher ratio of melon to mixture.
  • Experiment with different types and combinations of melons for unique flavor profiles.
  • To ensure proper freezing, avoid overcrowding the freezer with too many ice cubes or molds at once.
  • Once frozen, store the ice candy in an airtight container in the freezer to maintain freshness.
